Embroidery can be performed by the use of different techniques or stitches. Each of these stitch will help you achieve a lot by just using your hand. Here are the simplest stitches that you can employ today.
- Backstitch
This is a very good that you can use for hand designs and texting. Here is how to do it.Start by pulling your needle then through the fabric floss up and make first stitch forward. Space your needle for your desired length starting from the underneath, pulling through your fabric and about the needle as you floss back downwards and through that end of your previous stitch.
- Chain Stitch
It is a good one for design or pattern. It starts by creating a stitch in the normal manner. However, before you pulling the floss through, let it create a loop. Go on and bring your needle through the loop to tether hence preventing it from pulling away and pull. Place your needle close or directly to the hole stitched then pull through to create another loop by not pulling the floss through your fabric completely. Repeat pulling your needle up and through your loop to tether.
- Running Stitch
Looking at the first method for running stitch, you just have to push your needle then floss through and over your fabric in a continuous motion. The second method, push your needle through and pull it way up.
- Split Stitch
Pull the needle then floss through your fabric to create a single straight stitch. Make sure that the needle and the floss are underside the loop. Pass the needle through the stitch at the center and stitch forward same length as the initial stitch. You can repeat by bringing your needle every time at the center of every stitch.
- Stem Stitch
This is a perfect stitch especially if you want to curve letters in a nice way. To create this stitch, create a forward straight stitch bringing your needle then floss up but underneath your fabric. Unlike the split stitch, you will now pass the needle sideways of the initial stitch.
